1.) Parent meeting
2) kayaking starts on this Monday Sept. 14!
3) how we can communicate effectively
A warm welcome to the school year. The Ocean Studies Program (MOSP) will start almost immediately next week. Students will be introduced the sea kayaking part of our program on THE SECOND WEEK BACK!
You have enrolled in a very special, unique classroom this year. As the classroom teacher, the MOSP project is a dream come for almost a decade. I am passionate about the outdoors, about marine education, about seashore biology and caring for the Earth. I am a lifelong learner myself, having recently completed a Masters in Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Practice on the MOSP as an inquiry into marine education in the context of the New Curriculum. Our classroom has some planning and permission paperwork details unique to marine studies. So, all parents and students are invited to the first social evening/parent community meeting next Wedesday September 24.
Class Meeting: Wednesday September 9, 7:00pm to 8:00pm, Mr. Brown's Classroom, Room W202 [floor
above the Office]. Tea provided.
It is ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT TO ATTEND THIS MEETING! (Sorry for the short notice.) To discuss:
- Equipment and gear for kayaking trips and what to expect on Ocean days
- Schedule of our year; organization; forms and waivers
- School schedules
- Get-to-know-you
To discuss another time:
- Your son or daughter's individual learning needs and academic background; I really want to create a school year that is fun, challenging and just right for each student--but we have an evening set aside for Parent-Teacher Interviews soon. Please respect this for now.
MOSP has been set up to offer 6 sea kayaking trips for the students of Div. 9. The class is divided into half, a green group and a blue group. The years kayaking trips have been scheduled with our sea kayak instructor and outfitter, Mr. Doug Tyrrell, and are firm; these dates cannot be rescheduled. You will find all the dates labelled in the blog calendar (on the Home page at http://markbrownmonterey.weebly.com ) as Session 1, green, Session 1 blue, Session 2 green, session 2 blue, etc. Note that our first kayak day is in the afternoon next Monday. We will leave the school at lunch time and walk to Willows Beach at lunch time. Details to follow next Wednesday.
Please email at this address for any questions and concerns. I look forward to a great year with MOSP!
